Get Journal Entry Line. A journal entry can add, edit, or reverse a transaction to a journal. When writing journal entries, be sure to balance the general ledger by posting offsetting entries. A journal entry is an owned element of general ledger transaction ( GLBATCH ). The journal includes the original details which are consolidated on posting. The consolidated entries are listed in the summary at the end of the report. In the General Journal, you enter both debits and credits, and when the amounts balance, you can post the General Journal by selecting the Save button if you’re using the real-time posting method. If you are using the batch-posting method, select the Save button; then use the Post option from the System selection of the Tasks menu.
The journal lists the transactions in the order in which they occur, while the ledger contains a page for each account. In a manual system, the journal tells the bookkeeper which accounts are to be debited and which credited, and in what amounts. The bookkeeper carries out these instructions by posting journal entries to the ledger.
From the Tasks menu, select General Journal Entry . Sage 50 displays the General Journal Entry window. Enter or select the date of the transactions you want to enter. Sage 50 defaults this date to the Sage 50 system date. If you are in an accounting period that is different from the system date, then Sage 50 displays the first day of that period.
